Treatment of potential threats caused by the loss or theft of critical data stored on corporate PCs are driving market adoption of solutions for information retrieval and data protection. This is one of the findings of a survey conducted by IDC.
According to the study, 53% of all companies surveyed in the study implemented software or service backup. The adoption of a centralized approach to corporate machine backup is gaining momentum as more C-level executives, business units and legal and regulatory agencies requesting that the matter be addressed.
According to program director of Storage Software at IDC, Laura DuBois, now companies are backing up data from PCs, after a long period of neglect of this information asset. The approach that still prevails is the centralized backup, although there is a legacy approach, the expert points out.
The analysis indicates that 32.5% of companies surveyed continue to rely on individual employees to perform the backup information. In the evaluation of Laura, this represents a strategic opportunity for vendors that integrate data from both systems and the security management of PCs and desktop virtualization. She notes that the pressure to reduce cost of managing computers, desktop virtualization is certainly a technology that will increase the focus on protecting data and systems.
