Data Backup Services: 4 services for online backup data

By

Always a good idea to keep a backup copy of your documents securely online.

Sooner or later your disk has problems, it is not a question of IF but a matter of WHEN. So unless you have an external drive, online backup backup services is a good solution.

Although there are many services for file storage, few offer reliable storage and backup services for sensitive data. We go to them.

http://mozy.com/

Mozy – The easiest online backup solution. Just install on your PC or Mac, select which files you want to back up and the program does the rest. No need to worry, it will automatically keep files updated and synchronized. You can also access and download any or all of your files from other computers.

The free service has limited storage space in 2GB. Mozy also has a premium service, which is basically the same, but with unlimited storage space.

http://www.omnidrive.com/
Omnidrive – Unlike Mozy, Omnidrive is the storage facilities and sharing the backup itself. However, the availability of a client application (for Windows and Mac) also makes a good backup solution. He not only allows you to backup important files but also provides an excellent platform to store files online and thus you can access, share and view files from any PC. Some of the features offered by the client application Omnidrive include: drag and drop to upload, share files in 2 clicks and automatically synchronizes with an online account.

Additionally, when accessing the Omnidrive online you can also:

- View, edit, share and collaborate on Office documents (Word and Excel) directly into your browser.
- Edit, resize and crop your images.
- Incorporate any media file stored in your site, blog or profile (like MySpace).
- Store your favorite podcasts automatically (or video feeds) directly into your account.

A free account is limited to 1GB storage and 5GB of bandwidth. There are no restrictions to the size of a single file.

Data Backup Services

Some of the features offered:

http://box.net/
Box.net – Another promising service for online file storage, but it seems a little less attractive than the Omnidrive mentioned above, but at least allows you to create free accounts. There is a client application, since the service is 100% web-based. Nevertheless, the Box.net offers a file manager with web-based drag and drop. Files can be moved and dragged to / from your PC to / from your account at Box.net.

Some of the features offered:

- View, share and edit your documents online.
- Mobile access fully functional (m.box.net). Only for Premium accounts.
- Upload files to your account by sending an email to upload@box.net.
- Box Widget: Embed files and folders (documents, photo albums and so on.) In any web page.

Free accounts are limited to 1GB of storage (files up to 10MB) and 10GB monthly bandwidth.

http://steekr.com/
Steekr – The Steekr offers two different client applications: one for scheduling automatic backups and one for direct access to your account from your desktop. Both are available for Windows and Mac

The Steekr also supports collaboration on files, remote streaming of media files, share files and even allows you to leave your friends to upload files to specific folders. One downside is that the service allows viewing and editing of Office files. Similar to the Box.net and Omnidrive, the free accounts are limited to 1GB of storage.
